Jane Scott
With her Scottish heritage, Jane was brought up near the East Neuk of Fife, one of Scotland’s most stunning coastal areas, with its harbour villages, stunning beaches and endless sea views. This backdrop certainly shaped Jane’s creative spirit and love of all things related to the ocean. Jane moved to the warmer waters of Chichester Harbour over 25 years ago to raise her own family. It was during the search to liberate this creative spirit that she was drawn to the 'Hole in the Wall’ in Emsworth – a collective of keen potters under the guidance of Clive Yeomans. Clive taught Jane the foundations of working with clay, showing her different techniques, glazes and firings. Jane has now been potting for 13 years and loves experimenting with a variety of forms and textures, always remaining true to her passion for the coast with its ever changing hues and patterns. She works mainly in fine porcelain, but also incorporates stoneware for outdoor pieces, then firing them with a variety of glazes to produce some unique finishes.
For this ceramic artist, working with clay is liberating and allows her freedom from the physical limitations of Multiple Sclerosis. Christopher Pike
Since graduating from UCA-Farnham in 2011, after studying Fine Art, Chris has mainly worked to commission across a range of creative disciplines, including sculpture, design and carpentry.
Chris is highly influenced by natural pattern and the similarities found in architectural forms. In particular; the lines and shapes formed by contours, man-made structures and our interpretation and manipulation of the world around us through maps and architecture. Chris finds inspiration in both natural and human patterns - the shapes left by flowing water or tides, the organic riven form produced by years of natural wind-blasting sand on rocks, growth rings in timber, the contours we use to describe land shapes on our maps and the geometric forms found in architecture.
Chris’ sculptures are designed to be the focal point within an internal space or garden vista, a tactile feature within a considered design, or function as mindful spaces, whilst also being environmentally conscious.
